Christmas and New Year at Caistor Hall

We’ll twine the fresh green holly wreath, And make the yule-log glow; And gather gaily underneath The winking mistletoe; All blythe and bright By the glad fire light… In 1644, Christmas was banned by Oliver Cromwell. People were forbidden to sing Carols and a festive get-together would have broken the law. A Georgian Christmas, on the other hand, was very much all about parties, balls and family get-togethers – and so it has continued to this day. Caistor Hall revels in the traditional family Christmas. Leave the every day cares behind and spend the day in the warmth of this lovely old building. Caistor Hall has been described as a “grand old lady”.  Mixing Regency splendour with modern day informality, the hotel is not “stuffy” but still manages to retain its character – which makes it a perfect venue for Christmas Day. Soak up the atmosphere as you enjoy pre-lunch drinks in Palm Court or the main bar: open your presents, meet your guests, or perhaps sneak a spot under the mistletoe! Even when there is a howling gale outside, you will feel embraced by the warmth of Caistor Hall, with its open fires, areas for relaxation, fine dining room […]

Are You A Business? Did You Know…

It’s the little things that make a difference If you’re heading to Norwich on overnight business, you’ll obviously be searching for a venue which meets all your needs. Guided Tour Of Caistor Roman Town

Did you know that on our very doorstep lies a Roman regional capital? It is one of only three in the country that does not lie beneath a modern settlement. You may have wandered over these fields, walked along the ridges, admired the wild flowers, little imagining that this was once a teeming Roman town. On Friday 3rd April, however, you are welcome to join us for a free guided walk, starting at 11am from Caistor Hall Hotel, with the opportunity to return after the walk for a discounted bar meal. In recent years the Caistor project has received funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund and has been delving much deeper into the history of this site, with some extraordinary finds. This Roman Town, Venta Icenorum, was the capital of the territory of the Iceni and was probably established after the Boudican Revolt. Dr Will Bowden, who you may recognise from the popular Time Team programme, has been leading the research at this project and is offering you the chance to join him on a guided walk. The walk is free of charge and will take place on Friday 3rd April, at 11am, starting from Caistor Hall Hotel. The walk will […]
